Jacksonville Giants
To date, the Giants have maintained a winning streak, bringing home the ABA National Championship in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2017.
The Jacksonville Giants belong to the ABA (American Basketball Association). Starting as the Jacksonville Jackals, it wasn’t until the Jacksonville Jam in 2006 that the team began to gain momentum and evolved into the Jacksonville Giants in 2010.
The Jacksonville Giants are owned by local U.S. Navy Veteran and Attorney, Ron Sholes. Jerry Williams, Head Coach, is a former player of the Jacksonville Jam and his brother is a Jacksonville Jaguars fan-favorite player, Rashean Mathis.
Keep an eye out for these Jacksonville Giant's players:
- Jermaine Bell, who took on the role as our starting center, and has been with the team since the inception of the Giants in 2010.
- RJ Wright and Bernard Nugent are Jacksonville natives, they both called Jacksonville home and played for local high schools.
- Bruce Brown, a former Globetrotter, was an exciting addition to the team.
The Jacksonville Giants have brought the community together by showcasing the team's skills around the country. You can catch a game in Jax at different venues around the city, including the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena, the University of North Florida and Edward Waters University arenas.
Jacksonville Giants Fan Experience
A hidden gem in Jacksonville is our minor league basketball team, the Jacksonville Giants.
They started playing in 2010 and have been champions in their league in 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. Who wouldn’t want to see these champs play?! If you can’t make it to a game, you are welcome to attend the open practices they host, to meet the players and see them practice their moves.
The games are played all over Jacksonville in different college and high school arenas so you will have an opportunity to discover a new area of town while you catch a really great basketball game. Once at the game, you will be surrounded by other excited fans ready to cheer on some Giants favorites, such as Bruce Brown and Jermaine Bell. There are even a few Jax locals on the team including RJ Wright and Bernard Nugent. After the team dribbles their way to victory, head to one of our many local restaurants, for a celebratory dinner!
