Immerse Yourself in Nature at Hanna Park
If you’re looking for some great outdoor activities here in Jacksonville, look no further than Kathryn Abbey Hanna Park!
This oceanfront city park located between Atlantic Beach and the historic Mayport Village is a haven for outdoor lovers.
Hanna Park use to be called Manhattan Beach and was the first African American beach resort in Florida.
There are biking trails ranging in difficulty, camping grounds and cabins, hiking trails, lake and ocean kayaking, great surfing and 1.5 miles of white-sandy beaches. $5 gets your carload in the park at Hanna to enjoy dozens of eco-adventures.
A 60-acre lake is open for fishing, kayaks, pedal boats and canoes. Adventure Kayak Florida offers guided tours or rentals within the park. Along your tour, your river guide will point out the variety of wading birds and birds of prey that you will see. History of the local area and creeks will be discussed, as well as plenty of stories of fun river adventures. Kayaking at Hanna’s lake is peaceful, breezy and great for beginners, because the water is flat and easy to paddle through. There are shaded spots around the lake, close to the shoreline, where you can float and cool off.
The park also offers over 20-miles of hiking and biking trails that take you through a mix of boardwalk, soft sand and leaf-covered dirt. The different trails have varying levels of difficulty making some of them fit for the whole family.
AFTERNOON: Welcome to the park! Hanna is one of Jacksonville’s most beautiful parks with so much to see and do. From kayaking to fishing, surfing and paddleboarding, biking and hiking, you really can fill your itinerary up with dozens of outdoors adventures all in this one spot!
